Sadly the Meadow Creek vineyard which had supplied the
excellent fruit for our Wood Park Chardonnay since 1995
came to an end after the 2009 vintage. Faced with the
challenge of finding a vineyard producing high quality
fruit with similar characters to the Meadow Creek vineyard
we went looking. Aligning with a very well known grower
with excellent Chardonnay fruit located in the rolling hills
just below the township of Beechworth we have found
these mature vines have proved more than a match for
Meadow Creek, a name we have kept for the Chardonnay.
After crushing and pressing this wine was transferred to
French oak barriques for full barrel fermentation with
100 percent natural yeast. After fermentation, the wine
remained in barrel on yeast lees with regular lees stirring
to add complexity for twelve months. A third new, a third one
year and a third two year old Sirugue oak from Burgundy has
been used. This wine has also undergone 60 percent
Malo-Lactic fermentation to increase complexity.
