"From humble beginnings, Valenciso has become one of the leading lights of Rioja's small, yet growing band of terroir-focused producers. This handpicked Tempranillo is from the clay/limestone soils around Haro. The Reserva is naturally fermented in cement vats and the wine was then mostly aged for 19 months in low-toast Radoux French oak barriques. Following aging in barrel, the wine was transferred back to concrete vats to settle for a further 24 months before release.
This is an outstanding, multi-layered and complex release from Valenciso. It's still so youthful, with bright plum, dark cherry and grenadine fruit, all sorts of spice and plenty of tannin. It has modern purity but classical finesse and structure--and decades ahead of it." - Notes from the Importer
