Family owned by Leon and Rita Tokar. The winery and cellar door is off Maddens Lane neighbouring Yarra Yering in the Colstream sub-region of the Yarra Valley.
The winery and vineyards were established from 1995 to 1999. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo make up their vineyard of about 30 acres.
Winemaker Martin Siebert previously worked vintages at Benjamin Leroux, Burgundy, Pegasus Bay, Waipara, and neighbouring vineyard Yarra Yering. He is also a winemaker for Dawson's Patch, another quality grower producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, in the Yarra Valley.
Tokar Estate's 2014 Pinot Noir won Best Red Wine at the 2015 Yarra Valley Wine Show.
The blend is aromatic, sappy and savoury to pair easily with a broad range of foods.
Tempranillo gives hints of fresh tobacco leaves and a savoury mouthfeel. Shiraz gives smokiness and dark berry aromas. Pinot Noir gives fine mineral like acidity and chalky tannins.
