Tenuta Aglaea 'Aglaea' Rosso 2013
100% Nerello Mascalese.
Aglaea is name of the youngest of the Three Graces – the three sisters and daughters of God Zeus. The wine ‘Aglaea’ is the ‘youngster’ in my portfolio, and made from grapes of both old and young vines. It is bright cherry red. Dried herbs and minerals make up the gentle perfumes, while on the palate good acidity and hints of dry cherries capture the senses. A light savoury mouthfeel lingers towards the end.
Fruit is sourced from a vineyard at about 750m above sea level of the black-volcanic-soil slopes of Mt Etna.
Smells of raspberry and cherry with a sarsaparilla and anise edge. On the palate it has juicy acidity with a fine grip of dusty tannins.
This wine drinks well with a wide range of lighter dishes (no heavy sauces), salats and vegetables in all forms and shapes, and antipasti and snacks e.g. roasted nuts, carpaccio, salame etc.
