Six Acres Blue Label Yarra Valley Pinot 2016
The 2015 vintage in the Yarra Valley was very good for Pinot Noir. It allowed Six Acres to release their first Blue Label Pinot Noir — made from fruit sourced across three vineyards: Rising Vineyard in St Andrews; Syme on Yarra in Gruyere and the Six Acre vineyard in Silvan.
Fruit was hand-picked, fermented separately, ranging from 100% destemmed to 100% whole-bunch. Ferments were basket pressed to old-french-oak for natural Malolactic fermentation. From there barrels were tasted and classified based on flavour, intensity, structure and fruit balance.
The Blue Label Pinot is unfined and unfiltered. Fragrant aromas of red and black cherry fruit with earthy undertones and subtle savoury spice. The mouthfeel is soft and balanced by subtle tannins and a dry finish.
Their 2014 Estate Pinot was awarded gold at last years Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.
