Savaterre is a little gem nestled in the exceptional winemaking region of Beechworth. We visited the Savaterre property in 2019 and met Keppell, the owner and winemaker. He's a man with an interesting story, before wine, and now. There's plenty we could say about the afternoon we spent tasting wine with him, on a table outside with view of surrounding rolling hills, but we invite you to go one day yourself. It's not exactly a cellar door.
From the 'Frere Cadet' (Younger Brother) range, this Chardonnay has been made from hand-picked Beechworth grapes and aged in high quality French oak for 18 months. Mid-weight, it is creamy, and mouth-filling, with juicy flavours like nectarines, apricots and peaches.
Keppell says to crack this one open when a "Grand Cru would not be appropriate". What a joker. Pretty much, every night then!
