Philip Lobley Heathcote Nebbiolo 2013
Philip Lobley spent about 20 years working for De Bortoli in the Yarra Valley as their head Viticulturist. Philip has a practical approach to vineyard management and winemaking. His vineyard management and winemaking processes are in line with minimal interventionist techniques.
His Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet are estate grown on the Lobley’s property in Glenburn in the Upper Goulburn Region. The high density vineyard was planted in 1995 (now mature vines). There are both red volcanic and duplex soils. Yields are incredibly low to increase intensity in the finished wines.
Wines labelled Temption are made with fruit purchased from growers he has close relationships with.
Wines are made in small batches, undergo wild yeast fermentation and are unfiltered and unfined.
The 2013 Nebbiolo is made from fruit sourced in the Heathcote region of Victoria. It’s wild-yeast fermented and gently pressed to barrel and matured in older-oak-barrels for 12-months prior to bottling.
The wine is a light brick-orange colour in the glass. It has subtle aromas of asian-five-spices and red berry fruits. A lovely soft-mouthfeel and drying tannins. A wine with subtle complexity and delightful mid-palate fruit weight.
