Oratoire Cairanne Reserve Des Seigneurs 2011

Regular price $37.00
Sixty per cent Grenache, 30 per cent Mourvèdre and 10 per cent Syrah. This is the first of the Domaine's three Mourvèdre-rich bottlings. The Alary vineyards are located on steep hills in predominantly two lieux-dits: Saint-Martin and Les Douyes. For the Réserve des Seigneurs, the brothers blend old-vine parcels (average vine age across these plantings is roughly 65 years) of Grenache and Mourvèdre from the former site and a little Syrah from the latter. The yields can dip as low as 20 hl/ha, depending on the vintage. At 34 hl/ha, 2011 yielded slightly more bounty. Following fermentation with indigenous yeast in a range of concrete and wooden fermenters, the wine is matured for 24 months in neutral, large-format oak and bottled without fining nor filtration. A powerful, pulpy wine seething with dark cherry and raspberry fruits along with dark chocolate and liquorice. Finishes super fresh and expansive.
"The 2011 Cotes du Rhône-Villages Cairanne Reserve des Seigneurs reveals lots of sweet and sour cherry notes intermixed with raspberry, pomegranate, dusty, loamy soil, bay leaf and underbrush characteristics. It is an elegant, medium-bodied red to enjoy over the next 4-5 years." 88-91 points, Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #203
