Mike Press Adelaide Hills Unoaked Chardonnay 2015
Grower producers Mike and Judy Press planted their Kenton Valley vineyards in 1998, on 85 acres of land in the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills, at an altitude of 500m above sea level. They planted Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Cuttings were sourced from a revered original 100-year-old Eden Valley block.
Mike has more than 40 years experience. He worked with Max Shubert (ex chief winemaker at Penfolds and co-creator of Grange Hermitage Bin 95), was chief winemaker at Seppelts then Mildara Bass.
Both their Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc made James Hallidays Top 100 2015. The Adelaide Advertiser wrote, “Mike Press astounds with his portfolio of extraordinary wines”.
Adelaide Hills Merlot 2013
"Matured in American and French Oak for more than 12 months. This is ridiculously priced and should be a compulsory purchase by those who enjoy merlot. It opens confidently, but really brings home the bacon on the finish with a spice and black olive drive to red fruits. Drink to 2023" — James Halliday
Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2013
"This is the kind of vintage I admire at Mike Press, calm, intriguing and characterful. It's spicy, peppery, black-fruited, violet-fragranced and full of the personality of this high altitude vineyard, captured by now 18 year old vines. Caramel and milk chocolate oak pokes out on release, as it always does, but just a few hours of air is all it takes to subside as the fruit emerges. There is presence and body to this vintage, yet it carries its cool climate credentials confidently, with fine-boned , beautifully textured tannins and a long, elegant, pepper-accented finish. Patience. 93 Points. Drink 2019-2024 " — Tyson Stelzer
“Mike Press’ reds are astonishing value for money. This wine has a restrained but fresh aroma. It is packed with flavour and substance. Black fruits, spices, graphite and earthy aromas; medium weight and smooth tannins. 92/100.”—Huon Hooke
Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2015
"The awesome power and intensity of this wine will catch many by surprise; the bouquet is correct and varietal, but by the time it reaches the mid-palate you can sense the express train loaded with citrus, green pea and sparks of tropical fruits blazing through the finish and cleansing aftertaste of mouthwatering acidity." —James Halliday
Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2015
“Fruit is sourced from their Lobethal Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. The fruit is picked in the cool of the early morning. Its then cold fermented to capture the natural fruit aromas and acidity. The result is a light straw yellow Chardonnay smelling of grapefruit, melons, apples and nectarines. Refreshing and crisp.”— Mike Press, Winemaker
Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir Rose
“With zesty, cool climate credentials and plenty of refreshing flavour, this is hands-down the best Mike Press Rosé yet. It leaps out of the glass with fragrant rose petals, raspberries, pomegranate and guava. The palate is at once elegant and flavoursome, tangy, fresh, fine and lemon-accented (there’s a touch of chardonnay in the blend), propelled by the acidity of this lofty site high in the Adelaide Hills.” — Tyson Stelzer
