La Parnasse Syrah 2016
Sourcing: Parnasse is named after the mountain grass that flowers above our vineyards each spring, marking the beginning of a long, languid summer. Eric Moen weaves the character and strengths of a number of individual regions to create a wine style truly expressive of the South of France – beautifully ripe and expressive whilst softly structured and easy to appreciate.
Winemaking: Totally de-stemmed before a long, cool maceration (three weeks) with regular pump-overs to maximise retention of fruit colour and aroma. Maturation is partially in one and two year old oak barrels and partially in stainless steel tanks.
2016 Vintage: A very warm and dry vintage with noticeably low yields exacerbated by frosts in early Spring. The conditions continued with just enough relief via light showers before a very early and compounded harvest that had vignerons scrambling. A famous vintage for red wines, with rich flavours and impressive concentration matched by balance and freshness.
Tasting Note: Lightly perfumed with aromas of dark berries, plum, sweet spice and hints of forest bramble. The palate is rich and supple with a core of ripe and naturally sweet berried fruit flavours. The fruit is framed by light spice and fine tannins before an impressively detailed finish.
