Jamsheed Garden Gully Riesling 2013

Regular price $30.00
The ancient bush vines of this Great Western vineyard date back at least to 1890 and are incredibly low yielding (less than one tonne per acre). As such, they produce intensely flavoured fruit, which also retains good acidity. Gary tells us the site - which abuts the Concongella Creek - was as good as mothballed when he approached the owner back in 2005. 2011 was Mills' first crop from this site. Handpicked and trucked to the Yarra Valley winery, the fruit is then whole bunch pressed and racked to large (800-litre) French barrels where it is left to ferment with indigenous yeasts. After 8 months on lees, the wine is bottled with a small amount of residual sugar (15gms/l), for balance, medium dry.

"Pale, green-tinged yellow. Seductive aromas of ripe peach, pear and orange, with a floral top-note. Supple and expansive on the palate, with juicy, mineraltinged peach and melon flavours complemented by suggestions of honeysuckle and lemon. An agile acid structure allows the flavours to dance over the palate. Closes round, supple and very long, leaving floral and mineral notes behind. 91 points." -- Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
