Domaine de Montfin Rose 2015
Montfin are a Corbières estate crafting bespoke wines, befitting the combination of being small (20 hectares) and planted exclusively to vines dating back to 1930. Viticulture is certified organic, and the house style is one of lucidity, flesh and warmth. Principal varieties are Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, though the signature at this address is Carignan.
50% Grenache, 45% Cinsault, 5% Syrah.
Searching for further rosé styles of flesh and texture, this is a variation on the Provence theme. A touch leaner than edition 2014 and looking magic for it. A red fruited palate swimming in Jonathan apple skins, cranberries, a citrus and Campari notes with some mouth filling phenolic richness, smacked into drying balance by a long gravelly, gritty finish. Pairs beautifully with spicy cuisine such as Thai, rich enough even to do battle with Indian curries.
