Dappled is a micro-producer in the Upper Yarra Valley, bringing to market fewer than 10'000 bottles per year. Shaun Crinion, the mastermind winemaker and owner behind Dappled, is truly a rising star in the Yarra Valley region and beyond. So much so, he was awarded Best New Winery by James Halliday's Wine Companion in 2018, and also notably Young Gun of Wine in 2017.
Shaun's vision is simple. "I started Dappled in 2009 with a view to make high quality, unadulterated wines from special patches of dirt at realistic prices. I make these wines fiirst and foremost for my family and friends, so a hand-crafted, minimal intervention philosophy just makes perfect sense to me."
The 2021 fruit delivered a fabulous combination of ripeness and laser sharp acidity making this rendition of the wine stunning - and it’s a serious wine for cellaring. The wine displays beautifully complex aromatics of orchard flowers, yuzu and citrus, grilled hazelnuts with a whiff of smokey oak. The palate is creamy and textured with intense ruby red grapefruit acidity driving all through the wine - it’s delicate and weighty at the same time. It finishes with creamy lemon curd and oak spice.
