Crossroads Milestone Gewurztraminer 2013
A refined style with exuberant aromas of lychee, lemon, ginger and roses. On the palate the wine is full flavoured with a smooth texture and a delicious fresh spicy finish.
2014 was a warm vintage in Hawke’s Bay, ideal for ripening grapes. The fruit for this Gewürztraminer is off our home vineyard at Fernhill which has alluvial silt over gravel soils. This vineyard has been a proven performer with Gewürztraminer consistently producing ripe and distinctive fruit.
The fruit was gently harvested at optimum ripeness to capture a full range of flavours and immediately pressed off. Individual batches were fermented separately at different temperatures, with a variety of yeast strains to enhance the complexities of aroma, texture and flavour. Fermentation was stopped by chilling, to achieve a refreshing flavour balance with a touch of residual sweetness. The young wine rested on lees to further enrich the palate weight and texture. After blending and stabilising the wine was bottled young to capture the fresh aromatics.
Delicious as an aperitif, with chilled peaches and apricots. Also matches well with dishes like duck with orange ginger sauce, a Thai green curry or pork chops drizzled with apple sauce.
